　松屋町筋（大阪市東部の商業の中心地）は、人形や結納、玩具・花火・お菓子・海外へのお土産品などを扱う問屋、小売店街です。　なかでも節句人形（雛人形・五月人形）を扱う店舗数が、日本一多い通りで、四十件以上を連ねています。　世界的にも類を見ない伝統文化商品である雛人形・五月人形（季節の節目に飾る人形）を販売し、人形専門店として商売が成り立っています。　その商圏は広く、日本全国から雛人形・五月人形を求めて数多くの人々がこられています。　最近では、地下鉄松屋町駅ができ、海外の観光客の方々も数多く訪れるようになってきました。　訪れた海外の方々から見ると、不可思議な商品を販売している通りにも思えるし、又、異文化の香り漂うエキゾチックな通りとして映るでしょう。今日の様に、科学技術の発達した文明社会の中でも、日本人の雛人形・五月人形をはじめ
とする、伝統文化を継承する精神は消えず、時の流れの中で形を変えながら、現在も生活の中に、脈々と生き続けています。　
この日本人の、ものを大切にする繊細な心、そして継承していく精神は、すくなからず、今日の日本の発展（外国に負けない物づくり）にもつながっていると考えられます。その様な意味からも、この雛人形・五月人形に代表される伝統文化は、日本人の誇りであり、その伝統文化商品を扱う松屋町筋は、世界に誇れる数少ない伝統文化ストリートと言えるでしょう。　そして、２００１年春にユニバーサルスタジオがオープンすることによってますます、松屋町筋は、集客都市大阪の重要な役割を果たすストリートになることでしょう。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　１９９９．７．６

Cultural Tradition Street "Matsuyamachi"

Matsuyamachi "suji", or street, located at the commercial center of eastern Osaka city, is a street lined with wholesale and retail stores which handles traditional dolls, betrothal presents, toys, fireworks, candies,and souvenir gifts. This street is known to have more than 40 stores which handle seasonal festive dolls for Girls' Doll Festival and the Boy's Festival,the largest in Japan. These stores that specialize in these dolls maintain their business by selling these festive dolls which are unique to Japan. People come fromall over the country to buy these dolls. Due to the recently constructed Matsuya-machi subway station, it is now easy for many foreigners as well to visit this part of the city. Foreigners will most probably regard this street as a mysterious, exotic inter-cultural street. Even though we are living in a world surrounded by advanced technology, the Japanese spirit of the cultural tradition will forever remain in the core of the Japanese people. The delicate Japanese way of treasuring their tradition, and their devotion to the cultural tradition will certainly help Japan develop into a strong country. In these regards, these festive dolls which represent the cultural tradion are the prideof Japanese spirit. The Matsuya-machi street is one of the very few streets that handle these cultural traditional merchandise.
